What guidelines define chronic, non-healing wound?
CHRONIC NON HEALING WOUNDS
If a wound has not improved significantly within 4 weeks, or if it has not healed completely within 8 weeks, it is considered a chronic, non-healing wound.
Why is a Wound Specialist necessary for treating wounds?
Patients who have non-healing wounds require specialized and aggressive care. Specialized care can ensure that patients heal as quickly as possible, avoid infections, and return to their daily life activities.
What information and documentation are needed by the specialist?
Evaluate blood supply (Arterial Doppler Ultrasound)
• Measurements - Pictures if possible
• Documentation regarding the history of the wound
• 28 days with no significant healing
• 6-8 weeks with healing slowed or stopped
Why We're Different?
-
AMNIOTIC MEMBRANES BIOLOGIC'S
placental tissue; previously considered biologie waste following delivery, is a pristine, newly formed extracellular matrix (ECM) replete with growth factors and cytokines produced to protect and support fetal development. Therefore, this tissue represents an untainted extracellularmatrix -a neo matrix.

Wound Healing Benefits
Research and clinical studies going back over a century
haveexhibitedthe beneficial effects of using human placental
membranes to manage distinct types of wounds due to injury, disease, or surgical intervention. These studies have indicated several beneficial properties of the placental membranes including serving as a protective wound barrier, anti-microbial effects, and anti-inflammatory effects, among others. (3,4) -
Placental Membrane Layers
Broadly, the placental membranes include an internal or fetus facing amnion and an external or maternal facing chorion. The physical and biochemical properties of the two primary membranes are subtly different owing to the position they occupy in the placenta. The amnion is a thinner yet more compact layer of extracellular matrix while the chorion is a slightly thicker but less compact matrix. Both lavers are constituted of collagen fibers (Types I, 111, IV and V), along with other ECM proteins (including lami n in, fibronectin, proteoglycans, and hyaluronic acid) plus numerous growth factors and cvtokines.(3)
RESULTS
ADVANCED WOUND SOLUTIONS
Amniotic membrane has a number of characteristics that make it especially suited to wound healing. The amniotic membrane:
- Contains cytokines and essential growth factors
- Reduces pain when applied to a wound
- Increases and enhances the wound healing process
- Has antibacterial properties
- Is non-immunogenic (will not be seen as foreign material)
- Provides a biological barrier
- Provides a matrix for migration and proliferation of cells
- Reduces inflammation
- Reduces scar tissue formation
